I have the honour to annex for the favourable

consideration of His Excellency the Officer Administering the

Government, a letter from Mr.J.R.Mudie, Executive Engineer on

the Praya Reclamation Works.

2. Mr.Mudie was first employed in Government service in October, 1889, on a three years' engagement,having previous to that been for seven years in the Colony engaged on the Dock Works at Kowloon (see C.8.0.2572/92).

3. I find that in March, 1891, Mr.Mudie was ga- zetted as an Executive Engineer in the Surveyor General's De- partment with the approval of the Secretary of State, see Go- vernment Notification No.91 of 6th.March, 1891, at the same time as Mr. Drury, who has long since been on the permanent esta- blishment.

4. In 1892, Mr.Mudie was transferred to the Praya Reclamation Works on a renewed engagement, the salary and allowances being paid entirely from the Praya Fund. Thus although by Colonial Secretary's letter No.2528 of 11th.Octo- The Honourable
